CPP20307 - Certificate II in Technical Security

This Qualification is nationally recognised and forms part of an AQF certification.
Students will have to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy on line assessment (more information here)
as well as successfully complete all the online content before attending class.

Qualification Outline

This nationally recognised qualification is designed to give an individual who wishes to work in the security Industry at a technical level the skills and knowledge
required to competently install an intruder alarm system or CCTV system in a residential or commercial building. 

This qualification is made up of three Comtech courses:

1.  Introduction to Technical Security

Course Units

1. CPPSEC2001A Communicate effectively in the security industry
2. CPPSEC2002A Follow workplace safety procedures in the security industry
3. CPPSEC2003B Work effectively in the security industry
4. CPPSEC2020A Provide technical security services to clients

 Assessments include:

  • Online knowledge based test
  • Practical demonstrations and observations
  • Activities which may include completing documentation, verbal questioning, simulation or a range of other assessment methods. 

Please note - This is an online plus 1 day workshop style course

Duration:    Online content plus 1 day in class assessment
Cost:           $400.00 (No GST)

2.  Alarm and CCTV Installation Course- 5 days or 10 evenings

Course Units

1. CPPSEC2021A Install security equipment and systems
2. CPPSEC2026A Perform routine maintenance on security equipment and system
3. CPPSEC2023A Install CCTV equipment and system

This training course will take a trainee Technician or Electrician through the technical requirements that are needed to install a modern electronic alarm and CCTV system in a domestic or small commercial application. The course content was developed to help the technician to understand the concept of electronic security through various stages from design through to final handover. Technicians will work on products from different manufacturers to gain a broad range of experience and proprietary knowledge on common commercial systems within the Australian security Industry. One of the primary outcomes is to enable a technician to install and maintain a system that will carry out the functions for which it was designed to do with the minimum amount of disruption to either the customer or the security services resulting from false alarms or total malfunctions.

Assessments include:

  • Online knowledge based test
  • Practical demonstrations and observations such as install and test and alarm system, perform maintenance. 
  • Activities which may include completing documentation, verbal questioning, simulation or a range of other assessment methods. 

There is a self-study, online component to this course that must be completed prior to attendance

Duration:    Online content plus 5 days or 10 evenings in class 
Cost:           $1200.00 (No GST)

3.  Cabling Registration- 5 days or 10 Evenings (Open Cabling Registration)

The training package requires the following unit to be completed
ICTCBL236 Install, maintain and modify customer premises communications cabling: ACMA Restricted Rule

But due to new industry regulations, it is strongly recommended that technicians undertake the full Open Registration course to meet ACMA Cabling requirements. 

Therefore to make this qualification more relevant to industry requirements the student will be doing the following units to obtain a full Open Registration.

These units are 

The three prerequisite units now required for cabling registration 

1. ICTTEN202 Use hand and power tools
2. ICTWHS204 Follow work health and safety and environmental policy and procedures 
3. ICTTEN201 Use electrical skills in telecommunications work

The units required to obtain a full Open Registration

4. ICTCBL236 Install, maintain and modify customer premises communications cabling: ACMA Restricted Rule
5. ICTCBL237 Install, maintain and modify customer premises communications cabling: ACMA Open Rule

In order to apply for your cabling Registration with one of the five registrars, you must meet the ACMA requirements which include an OHS/WHS unit of 
competency and completion of the 30-50 question mandated ACMA test. Click here for complete requirements.

Course Delivery

This course is designed to be modular utilising flexible delivery methods.
The three primary courses as mentioned above are delivered regularly and mostly in the evenings
to allow a trainee technician more flexibility to attend the course without impacting on their working day.

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites to attend the course as this course is designed to take a trainee technician through all the necessary steps to obtain this qualification.
