Structured Cabling Endorsement Course (SCS)

This course we are providing is nationally recognised and forms part of an AQF certification.
Students will have to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy on line assessment (more information here)
as well as successfully complete all the online content before attending class.

Course Outline

This Structured Cabling Endorsement Course (SCS) is a competency based course that will allow a technician to obtain an SCS endorsement on their Open Registration Card.

This course is defined under the Australian Qualifications Training Framework. (ATQF) It is a prerequisite course for technicians who wish to install
structured cabling in commercial buildings for Computer and Telecommunications Networks including but not limited to Category 5 and Category 6 UTP.
This course also suits Security Technicians who install UTP cable as part of a network for IP CCTV.

Course OutcomeTechnicians who successfully complete this course will be awarded a National Competency Certificate that may be used to contribute to a Cert III in Telecommunications.

Course Content

This course is based on Australian Standards:
AS/CA S009:2013,AS/CA S008:2010 and AS 3080

This course incorporates the following:

1. Understanding Digital Transmission
2. UTP, FTP, shielding, earthing
3. Structured Cabling Components
4. Connector types and modules
5. Categories and Transmission Performance
6. Installation Practices
7. Terminating KRONE and 110 Systems
8. Class C, Class D, Class E Permanent Links including Channel Testing requirements and techniques

Course Delivery

This course forms part of a complete Combined Endorsement course and makes up the first 2 days or 4 evenings of that course
There are two ways of completing this course

Part Time - 4 evenings
Full Time - 2 days

Pre-Requisites

There are no pre-requisites to attend the course but it is recommended that a student has completed an Open Registration course before attending the SCS Course.

Recommendation

This course forms the first 2.5 days of a Cabling Endorsement Course, therefore it is better to complete the full week course and obtain all three endorsements being

2.    Coaxial
3.    Optical Fibre
