1. Cabling Registration Skill Set – WA only

Course Outline
Thanks to the ever expanding nbn™ network in Australia, the telecommunications industry has grown exponentially and now requires technicians in the following areas:
- Cabling and Network Infrastructure Technicians
- Network Engineers
- Cyber Security Professionals
- Electronic Security Technicians
- Audio Visual (AV) Technicians.

If you are interested in a career in any of the above, then this hands-on, practical-focused training is where you start. It is designed to take a student with minimum or no experience through the technical requirements to start their new career. Students will learn how to install and test telecommunications cabling and outlets using specialist tools and test equipment and much more.
Successful completion of this course will enable you to then get the practical knowledge to apply for an Open Cabling Registration (License) to work in the telecommunications industry in Australia.
This training course at Comtech’s state of the art training centre in Welshpool is delivered in collaboration with the Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD) in WA.
The normal price of this training is $800 for experienced technicians and $2000 for new entrants, but with funding provided by DTWD, the price is heavily subsidised.

Course Content
Prerequisites
1. ICTWHS204 Follow work health and safety and environmental policy and procedures
2. ICTTEN208 Use electrical skills when working with telecommunications network
3. ICTTEN202 Use hand and power tools*
Outcomes
On Successful completion, the student will receive a statement of attainment for the following units
1. ICTWHS204 Follow work health and safety and environmental policy and procedures
2. ICTTEN208 Use electrical skills when working with telecommunications networks
3. ICTTEN202 Use hand and power tools
4. ICTCBL247 Install, maintain and modify customer premises communications cabling ACMA Open Rule
This skill set provides credit towards ICT30519 Certificate III in Telecommunications Technology.

The Open Registration course covers:
- Mandatory cabling knowledge and practical skills
- The regulatory environment in Australia
The Open Registration course includes the following practical exercises:
- Standard telephone connections
- Lead in cable termination into Network Termination Devices (NTD) and line modules
- Installation of building and floor distributors
- RJ 45 connections
- Telecommunications Cabling Advice form completion
- Knowledge-Based Assessment (Completed on the Learning Management System)
- Practical Assessments and Observations
- Verbal Questioning
Eligibility Criteria for fee-free training
The WA State Government, through Jobs and Skills WA, subsidises vocational education and training (VET) courses in priority areas, to reduce or remove the fees and make training more accessible to all Western Australians.To be eligible for reduced-fee qualifications, or a subsidised training place; you must have left school*, have your primary place of residence in Western Australia, and are either:
an Australian citizen; or
- a permanent visa holder; or
- holders of a sub-class 309, 444, 785, 790, or 820 visa ; or
- secondary holders of a temporary visa of sub-class 457 or 482 visa; or
- a bridging visa E holder (subclasses 050 and 051) who has made a valid application for a visa subclass 785 or 790;
- Ukraine citizens who are holders of a visa subclass 449 or 786;
- Afghan citizens who are holders of a visa sub-class 449; or
- Holders of a bridging visa who are eligible to work and who have made a valid application for a subclass 866.
- a dependent or spouse of the primary holder of a visa subclass 457
- a bridging visa holder who has made a valid application for a visa subclass 866; or
First Nations people, young people, people out of work or receiving income support, unpaid carers, people with disability, and women facing economic insecurity are particularly encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity for fee free training.

Entry Requirements
The training package does not have any entry requirements for this skill set, although this qualification may not be suitable for students who are colour blind.
Additionally, all students will need to undertake a language, literacy and numeracy assessment prior to commencing this qualification.
