Course Outline
This training course has been designed and developed to take a trainee Technician or Electrician through the technical requirements that are needed to install a modern CCTV system in a commercial application.
The course content was developed to help the technician to understand the concept of CCTV Technology through various stages the trainee will work on products from different manufacturers to gain a broad range of experience and proprietary knowledge on common commercial systems within the Australian security industry. One of the primary outcomes is to enable a technician to install and maintain a system that will carry out the functions for which it was designed to do, with the minimum amount of disruption to either the customer or the security services.
Course Content
This CCTV installation course incorporates the following unit of competency:

CPPSEC2023 Install video surveillance systems and equipment

  • CCTV Development
  • Fundamentals of Video
  • Transmission Protocols
  • Cameras, Lenses and Monitors
  • Analogue and Digital Video Recording
  • Installation Practices
  • Cabling Topologies
  • IP Technology
  • Surveying for CCTV
  • Final commissioning
  • Handover to a customer
  • Documentation
  • Follow on maintenance programs including fault finding

Assessments include:
Online knowledge-based test
  • Practical demonstrations and observations such as install and test an alarm system, perform maintenance.
  • Activities may include completing documentation, verbal questioning, simulation or a range of other assessment methods.
  • Please note there is a self-study, an online component to this course that must be completed prior to attendance.

Pre-Requisites
There are no prerequisites to attend the course but an applicable cabling Registration is required to install Security Cabling under the ACMA Cabling Provider Rules.
To install IP enabled CCTV systems an Open Registration plus endorsements is required.

Course Outcomes
On successful completion of this course, the student will be provided with a Statement of Attainment for the unit CPPSEC2023 Install video surveillance systems and equipment.
This unit is also delivered as part of the Certificate II in Technical Security (CPP20319)
Course Delivery
This course is normally combined with the intruder alarm Training Course making it a 5 day course
But if you require just the CCTV course it comprises of a one-day theory webinar and one day in a workshop to complete the practical and assessments
If you are an experienced technician then you can do the online delivery method mentioned in the next section.

Online option for experienced technicians
If you are a technician that has let your license lapse or you are an experienced technician that is from interstate or overseas who now requires accreditation to work

Security Licensing
Security licences may apply to technicians to installing, maintaining or repairing security equipment. This is regulated independently by each state, the RTO is not responsible for licensing
